The human world is not only defined by history, by culture, by the total or the global society, by ideologal and political superstructures.
it is defined by that in between and mediatory: “everyday life”.

Live

1. v. i. Live, habitually occupy a place or a house.

Live52 is a Project about the here and the now, of living, which uses the image as a record, a footprint of the routine of a single space, my living space, my house.
12 themed and serialized months of which some have an informative aim and others were useful to me to bring awareness to actions which I routinely carry out nearly at an unconscious level, without paying attention, without experiencing.
An active process which lasted 52 weeks and ended up becoming a vital task which altered my day to day and transformed me, where the photographs were not intended to be great photographs of an interesting place but rather the memory of the experience of living.

Living52 took place between August 2012 and July 2013.

VITAL ACT
"Eating" is one of the things i do more unconscious. Fast and automatic, without paying attention. In order to change the relationship with this vital act i created a serialized work process. Cook, eat and at the end i take a photograph of the plate and the remains. This process help me to be more present about this act, feel the moment, make it more real.

CONSUMPTION
How much do I spend on food, hygiene, cleaning and medicines every month? What products do I use more of? How many times to I shop in the month? How much do I spend on beer?...
I take a pack shot of my daily shopping and I keep the receipts. That way I workout my monthly expenses and I become aware of the types of products I usually use.

TIME
How many hours are there in the month of October? How many hours am I out of the house? If I add up the hours that I am out of the house and the hours that I sleep, how many hours am I awake at home?
The clock and the calendar determine our lives. We live constantly aware of time passing. The photographs represent the departure and the arrival times from and to my house thereby determining the time spent away from it.

RELATIONSHIPS
Relationships with looks which bring me different
perceptions of my house. I relinquish the vision of my house to those people share my living.
For 30 days a Canon AE1 camera is always loaded and available to anyone who lives or passes through my house.

RELATIONSHIP
I reinterpret the vision of my house as captured in the month of November making postcards with the chosen images. I add a reflection, “my punctum”.
I post the postcards to my house establishing a daily RELATIONSHIP between the addressee and the sender.

ME
How do I live the month emotionally?
Every day at the end of the day when I arrive home I take a self portrait in an attempt to capture my true emotional state. I chose three basic shapes: the triangle for it pointed shape, related to a bad humoured or contrary mood; the square, which because of it wide and solid base fills me with security and self esteem: and the circumference, symbol of balance. With these I created an emotional diary.

LEISURE-TELEVISION
How many films? How many documentaries? How many episodes of the Simpsons? How many minutes of advertising? How many news programmes?
With an “in situ” video camera I recorded all of the hours of television consumed daily during this month.

MANIPULATION
I analyzed the recording during the month of February; from each day I extracted a television portrait to de-contextualize. I printed it, constructed a paper plane, photographed it and reinterpreted the character with a personal note which gave form to the way of perceiving the world.

LIGHT
How does the light change throughout the day in my house? One thousand five hundred and sixty three photographs placed in a daily linear reticle. The first photograph of the day is taken at sunrise and the last at sunset. The changes in the increasing and decreasing light are mediated by daily life in a month where the days are lengthening due to the time change.

TANGIBLE SPACE
How can a space be made tangible?
I focus on the SPACE of my house and I try to make it TANGIBLE, I undertake an “action” filling balloons with air; in that way I get a movable volume which I move around, adapt and photograph in the different spaces that make up my house.

BEGINNING∞END
I reflected on the experience of LIVING at the end of the most lived year. I closed this project with an important photograph. The place chosen by Paco Martí1 to live in time. A place from the past which is memory in my present.
